10.10.10

Welcome to the 2010 Bay Village Bicentennial Celebration web site. Planning for Bay’s big bicentennial began in early March, 2009 and continues to this very day.

The Joseph Cahoon family settled here in the Western Reserve area, then called Dover Township, on October 10, 1810 (10.10.10). They migrated from Vergennes, Vermont with hope and prospects of new land and a fresh start. At that time, our country’s flag had 15 stars and 15 stripes. Just as the flag has changed over the past 200 years, the wooded area near a busy brook that Joseph Cahoon and his family called home has grown and prospered.

Today’s Bay Village is a proud and wonderful community of 6,200 attractive residences located in a beautiful lakeside setting. With something for everyone, Bay Village 2010 offers residents the Huntington MetroParks, home to picturesque Huntington Beach, BAYarts, historic Huntington Playhouse, and the Lake Erie Nature and Science Center.

Additionally, Bay is a city of parks. Historic Cahoon Memorial Park, a treasure trove of Bay history and the location of the 1818 Cahoon Homestead and Library, along with Reese Park, Columbia Road Park and Bradley Road Park offer a place for residents to picnic, play, or just pause. Bay jointly operates Walker Road Park with the City of Avon Lake.

Daily, in this peaceful community, residents enjoy walking trails, picturesque gardens, boating and waterfalls, an award-winning rose garden, energetic civic organizations, excellent schools, historic homes and buildings, the welcoming Dwyer Memorial Senior Center, and friendly, fair merchants. Residents have much to be thankful for since that morning in 1810 when the Cahoon family began our ongoing journey.

Celebrate and enjoy our 200th city-wide birthday on October 10, 2010, become part of it, volunteer, and, most of all, offer thanks and prayers for continued blessings.
Happy 10.10.10!
